I’ll wash the dishes later...

We’re only human. We get tired. We don’t feel like it. We want to see a cool youtube. We get to talking to somebody and sit around for 2 hours instead of 10 minutes.

You know – the time goes by. It’s 9 o’clock in the morning. Then it’s noon. Then it’s 4 PM. Then suddenly it’s midnight.

Wow. I still didn’t do the dishes. How did that happen? A whole sinkful... Oh well. Gotta go to bed, but – tomorrow’s another day. Maybe first thing in the morning??

And that’s how it goes. Whatever was supposed to get done today – doesn’t get done. Maybe it will get done tomorrow. But maybe tomorrow will be like today and it won’t.

Statesmen, politicians, legislators, policy setters and ministers are people too. And so are their staff members. What happens when THEY don’t “get the dishes done”? The same thing that happens when we don’t get stuff done – it piles up. It gets stinky. It is bothersome. And it gets worse and worse.

This week Eli Military Academy’s Rabbi Eli Sadan, a legendary figure, blasted the Netanyahu government for procrastinating on the anti-terrorism front. A series of 7 terror attacks “scored” 2 dead Israelis and 6 injured – 2 seriously.

There are things to be done about that, just like soap and water does something for dirty dishes. As Rabbi Sadan  pointed out, if Jewish 1000 homes are built in Yehuda or Shomron for every successful (sic) terrorist attack, you had better believe the Palestinian sponsors of terror are going to be deterred. Because the goal of terrorism  is to weaken Jewish presence – definitely not to strengthen it. This doctrine is known in Hebrew as the “proper Zionist response” doctrine.

So...what’s happening? Rabbi Sadan’s shocking message was extensively covered in Israel’s press but only in Hebrew. He broke the news to all of us: NOTHING is happening. The dishes are still in the sink. The cabinet has not met yet. And no cabinet means no decisions.

You can help. You can’t do the cabinet’s dishes because you’re not a member of the cabinet. But you can send a reminder to the public figures who are supposed to be doing the dishes. Their email addresses are below – all ready to go into the “to” field of an email from you. YOU can remind Israel’s politicians to get up NOW, to do the dishes NOW. Yes, BEFORE they switch on the TV or have a coke. Or, in public affairs lingo,  your email can demand: “Insist Cabinet makes anti-terrorism decisions  - now, before the next Israeli gets killed!”

Reminders work. Now that you’ve mentioned it – maybe I’ll do the dishes now, thanks for bringing it up. Now that Mr. Good Citizen has contacted me about it – perhaps I’ll put out a press release calling for Cabinet to meet terror head-on. So, thanks for writing that email. It’s your way of making good things happen in this big complicated world of ours.

Maybe YOUR email will be the one that tips the scale and saves a life – who knows?
