The Cabinet has approved the change, and on Sunday the government will vote on Defense Minister Yoav Gallant's and the military's demand that conscripted soldiers serve for 3 years.
Prime Minister Netanyahu suggested to haredi MKs that they advance the conscription law in the winter session as they requested.
The government will apparently wait until the winter session to pass the law. The haredim, in the meantime, are demanding otherwise.
Following clarifications that the legal reform won't go ahead as planned, activists are now protesting against the conscription law.
