The blessing known as "HaGomel" - thanking G-d for rescuing us from danger - is recited by a person who has safely experienced life-threatening events. Experiences such as a near-death incident, a successful birth, dangerous travel and others, require a special expression of gratitude to G-d, Jewish Law mandates.

Psychologist Dr. Judith Guedalia explains that there is great therapeutic value to the reciting of the blessing in many psychological levels.

In the following video, Israel National News TV speaks with Dr. Guedalia, who serves as director of the Neuropsychology Unit at the Shaare Zedek Medical Center and co-founder of "Nefesh Israel," an organization of observant social workers, psychologists, psychiatrists and professionals in related fields. The group serves also as the Israel-based chapter of Nefesh International, the International Network of Orthodox Mental Health Professionals, a worldwide organization founded in the 1990s in the United States.

The words of the blessings are as following: "Blessed are You, Hashem, King of the Universe, Who bestows favor upon the undeserving, Who has bestowed every goodness upon me." The blessing must be recited in the presence of a minyan,  a quorum of ten men, who then respond, "Amen. May He Who has bestowed favor upon you, continue to bestow every goodness upon you forever.”

Israel National NewsTV spoke with Dr. Guedalia at the annual Nefesh Israel Conference, held this week at the Michlalah Academic Institute in Jerusalem.
