An IDF soldier was seriously wounded yesterday (Wednesday) during a training exercise at a military base in the south. The soldier was struck by a ricochet to the head and taken to the hospital for treatment.
His family has been notified of the incident.
The military police have started an investigation into the circumstances of the incident. At its conclusion, the findings will be forwarded to the military attorney's office for examination.
In August 2022, IDF Soldier Staff Sergeant Natan Fitoussi was killed in a friendly fire incident.
Sergeant Fitoussi was killed during an operational activity at the Judea and Samaria security barrier, adjacent to the town of Shuweika. Following Fitoussi’s death, the Commanding Officer of the Central Command, MG Yehuda Fuchs, ordered that a dedicated committee of experts led by COL Liron Biton be established. The committee was tasked with examining the contributing factors of the incident, drawing conclusions and formulating recommendations to prevent similar incidents from reoccurring in the future. This was done in addition to conducting an official investigation into the incident.
The investigation of the incident revealed that Fitoussi was shot with two bullets - one in his leg, and one fatally in his chest. He was taken to Meir Hospital in Kfar Saba in critical condition to receive medical treatment, but the medical staff were forced to pronounce his death.
Also in August, IDF tank crew member Eitan Fichman was killed as a result of a head injury he sustained inside of a tank during a military exercise in northern Israel.
