The coalition is planning on only advancing two additional bills as part of its judicial reform and to end the process next winter, Channel 12's Amit Segal reported Wednesday.

According to the report, legislation to reduce the reasonableness standard will be advanced through the second and third readings by the end of the summer session within the next few weeks. The standard allows the court to review and strike down government actions on the argument that no 'reasonable' government would engage in such actions.

Immediately after the Knessets recess, during the winter session, which will begin in October, the coalition intends to advance the bill to change the makeup of the judicial selection committee according to the proposal of former Justice Minister Prof. Daniel Friedman.

Prof. Friedman's proposal states that each political camp would receive five representatives, some being former Supreme Court judges and others serving politicians. In such a situation, no one side would have a clear majority, and at the same time, Supreme Court judges would not have veto power.

The override clause, which would allow the Knesset to overrule the Supreme Court with a simple majority of 61 MKs, would not be advanced, nor would any of the other bills that were in the early stages of legislation.

A final decision has yet to be made on whether or not to try to advance the Legal Advisers Law.
