Dr. Ofer Merin, director general of the trauma unit at Shaare Tzedek Hospital in Jerusalem, gave a briefing Monday afternoon on the medical status of the IDF soldier seriously wounded in a stabbing attack near Kiryat Arba in Judea earlier in the day.
The 19-year-old victim was defined as being in a "very serious and unstable" condition after being stabbed in the neck by an Arab terrorist from Hevron, who was shot dead. The attack took place at the junction outside the Arab village of Bayt Einun, located just north of Kiryat Arba.
"An hour and a half ago a wounded victim arrived in the trauma unit in very serious condition with stab wounds on his neck," said Merin.
"I'll start with true praise for the forces on the ground, a 30-minute drive away. The treatment on the ground was excellent, the reports throughout the (ambulance's) drive were good and precise, and that allowed us in the trauma unit to organize correctly and well, specifically for his wound."
The doctor explained that "the wounded reached us while unstable, in a very serious condition, he underwent an assessment and short initial treatment in the trauma unit and from there was brought to the surgery room."
"The wounded is currently being treated in the surgery room, his condition now after the initial treatments is stable."
He concluded by saying that "the wound is a very serious wound, a wound to the central blood vessels in the neck, that's all I can report at the current time."
