Arab terrorists threw a firebomb at the IDFs Ofrit base in Jerusalem on Thursday night, causing a fire to break out in a forested area near the base.

Several firefighting teams arrived on the scene shortly after the fire broke out in an effort to put the blaze out.

Firefighters said they did not believe that there was any danger the flames would reach the base, but said that they had taken preventive measures to stop the blaze from spreading in the direction of the base, just in case.

The base is located on Mount Scopus, near Hadassah Hospital and Hebrew University's Mount Scopus campus.

Security officials have opened an investigation to determine if the firebomb was part of an ongoing series of attacks by Arab terrorists against Israeli targets in Jerusalem.

Over the Rosh Hashanah holiday that began on Sunday Arabs violently rioted, attacking Jewish visitors and police officers on the Temple Mount and in the Old City.

Alexander Levlovitz (64) was murdered on the eve of Rosh Hashanah Sunday night in an attack by Arab terrorists, after a rock hurled through his car's window made him lose control of the vehicle and crash.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu calling an emergency meeting of the cabinet at the end of the holiday on Tuesday night to discuss plans to stem the unrest. Netanyahu said that he would draw up “new standards” of punishment for rock throwers.

The Knesset recently passed new legislation that provides for a minimum jail sentence of ten years for terrorists convicted of throwing rocks or firebombs.
