Yesh Atid party leader Yair Lapid has called on the government to adopt legislation to enable authorities to expel the families of terrorists, in response to Wednesday night's deadly shooting in Tel Aviv's Sarona Market.
In a message posted to his Facebook page, Lapid sent his "condolences to the families of those who were murdered last night and my wishes for a full and speedy recovery to the injured," and offered an olive branch to the government from the opposition benches.
"In the face of evil terror there is no coalition and opposition," he declared. "We will support the government, the security cabinet and especially the IDF in the fight against terror."
"But we must also use additional tools to win this battle," he added.
"There is a law before the Knesset proposed by Israel Katz (Likud), David Biton (Likud), Yaakov Perry (Yesh Atid) and myself which will allow the Israeli government to expel the families of terrorists.
"The time to pass that law is now."
Several MKs and even government ministers have repeatedly called for the families of Palestinian terrorists who murder Israelis to be deported to Gaza. However, while the prime minister himself has considered such measures with or without a new law - even ordering the Attorney General to examine the proposal - it is still mired in bureaucracy and yet to pass.
