Shaare Tzedek Hospital in Jerusalem on Saturday night announced that Ganedi Kofman, who was stabbed by an Arab terrorist outside the Cave of Machpelah in Hevron on Monday, has stabilized to a certain degree.
The hospital reported that despite the slight degree of stability now seen in his medical condition, Kofman remains very seriously wounded and is still in life-threatening danger.
He is on artificial respiration and has been put to sleep, and continues to receive treatment at the emergency medical unit of the hospital.
On Tuesday, Kofman's wife asked the public to pray for the recovery of Genadi Chaim ben Raayah-Rachel.
Dr. Ofer Merin, director of Shaare Tzedek's trauma unit, announced on Monday immediately after Kofman was evacuated to the hospital that "a man aged around 40 arrived with several knife wounds in his upper body. Unfortunately he arrived in critical condition with no blood pressure."
"The stabbing wounds hit his heart, lungs and other organs in the stomach. In the first stage he was operated on in the trauma room, and from there he went to the operation room where he underwent surgery for an hour-and-a-half," said Merin on Monday.
"Afterwards he was transferred to the emergency care unit. His condition is still critical, and unfortunately he is faced with immediate life-threatening danger."
Hevron activist Baruch Marzel of Otzma Yehudit has been protesting at the site of the stabbing all week, and on Friday IDF Central Commander Roni Numa passed by where he was protesting.
"They may call you Numa but you need to wake up, Jews are being slaughtered in the land of Israel," quipped Marzel, playing off how "numa" can also mean "go to sleep." In response, a stung Numa said, "you hit me below the belt."
"Ganedi Kofman they stabbed above the belt in his heart, and he's lying in critical condition, and you're doing nothing to deal with the problem," shot back Marzel.
