A 50-year-old bakery worker was killed in an explosion in the oven at a bakery he worked at in Ashkelon Sunday afternoon.

Magen David Adom and United Hatzalah paramedics attempted to resuscitate the man, but were forced to declare him dead at the scene.

MDA emergency medicine medics Laura Zohar and Barak Azran said: "When we arrived at the scene, we saw a lot of destruction and a lot of commotion. While being careful to maintain their safety, the crews entered the business and saw a man lying on the floor unconscious without a pulse and not breathing with multiple systemic injuries. We performed medical tests but unfortunately his injury was fatal and we had to pronounce him dead."

United Hatzalah volunteer EMT Ariel Zohar said: "When I arrived at the scene I was told that an employee was critically injured following an explosion of the oven during his work in the bakery. Unfortunately, his death has to be pronounced at the scene due to the severity of his injuries."

The cause of the explosion is currently unknown.
