Georgian singer Mariam Elieshvili sings for the Jewish People

Elieshvili will be performing in special concert held at first-ever international conference on anti-Semitism.

In November, "Israelis against anti-Semitism" will be holding its first-ever international conference, in Jerusalem, with Jews from around the world being joined by non-Jews too, everyone coming together to develop practical models of advocacy for Israel's interests and to brainstorm for new ways to fight anti-Semitism in all its forms.

The conference is being organized by "Israeli House" together with representatives from Jewish organizations from around the world, including Australia, and will also feature a musical concert in which famous non-Jewish singers will perform.

One of those performers is now in Israel to record a special song, "Shabchi Yerushalayim" (Praise Jerusalem), sung in Hebrew -- Mariam Elieshvili, from Georgia, and she joined Israel National News in their Jerusalem studio to discuss the song, the conference, and the special relationship between Israel and her native country.

"My main reason for being here, for coming here to record this song, is my love for this beautiful country," Mariam said. "Georgians see Israel, and especially Jerusalem, as a sacred place, and we love Israel in general.

"We have a special connection, going back centuries," she continued. "Many people from Georgia visit Israel and many Israelis visit Georgia. We have many cultural similarities, such as our love for music."

Asked what it's like to sing in Hebrew, Mariam explained that she has sung Jewish songs from the Bible on many occasions. "For this song, I learned the words by heart and I know their meaning.

"I'm not the only singer who's going to be performing here in November," she added. "There will be several other famous singers from Georgia. I'm not the only person from Georgia who loves Israel, either. And I'm really happy and proud that in Georgia, there's no anti-Semitism.

"We're with you," she concluded.
