That Jonathan Pollard ex-spy for Israel is living in a tiny apartment in New York three stories up with no elevator? This is after his 30 years in a US prison, and now on parole. No health insurance either?
Why hasn't each Jew in the golden medina and worldwide given a dollar each to make his life comfortable? Or are we all saving up to go to the latest James Bond movie?
After all we know the first rule of being a spy: if caught the hiring country will disavow all connection to that person. The Israelis did precisely that to Pollard for years, even delivering him to the US authorities before finally admitting responsibility.
Would it be unpatriotic for Jews worldwide to lift a finger to help him? We run tzedakah campaigns collecting billions for all sorts of causes but none to help Pollard. We all need to step up immediately to enable him who gave up the best years of his life for our people, to care for his sick wife and to live decently.
Depending upon our leaders to free him has gone nowhere until now. Unlike the great James Bond who goes on to live another day after his assassination these are the only twilight years that Pollard has left.
He is our responsibility.
