Beware of Sanders/Gantz and the allures of the left
Beware of Sanders/Gantz and the allures of the left

Consider this a two-part memo that began with Israel on our mind, and will return in a moment to that topic.

But with Comrade Bernie back in the picture, it got us worrying even more about America, yes, America’s chances of survival as land of the free.

Actually, I thought of it even before Bernie Sanders joined the other 20-plus misfits in a run against Trump, 2020.

Elizabeth Warren, a liar from the word go, typifies the lot of them.

Never before have we had so many stooges featured in one Party.

In a place that houses “Palestinian” and Somali delinquents as lawmakers, Bernie Sanders – pied piper of equal misery for all through Socialism – may yet be the sanest of them all.

If that’s the future of the Party, it may well become the future of the United States should the dice roll the wrong way in 2020, or even before. (I can’t believe I’m saying 2020.)

Imagine this country in the hands those Socialist crazies. You’d rather not?

Doesn’t take much to tip the scales.

Most great civilizations are ruined from within, and last for about 500 years. Our own cracks are beginning to show after these 200-plus years.

What’s my point?

In the pages of history, we are rookies. We have not been time-tested.

Not like the Israelis who’ve been on the scene, as Jews, for nearly four thousand years and…and as the most hunted, most murdered people on earth… and yet?

Yet after all that, they are back home speaking the language spoken by G-d to hand the Torah to Moses. They’ve endured, after having everything thrown at them.

That’s why, on this day at least, I worry more about America’s chances.

We defeated the forces of Communism from the outside. Can we resist them from within? A hint as to which direction America is headed –

Bernie Sanders raised $6 million within 24 hours of announcing himself a candidate for president.

A generation has been seduced and so we’ve still got a ways to go to prove our resilience…and to prove ourselves resistant from the allures of the Left.

Likewise, the Israelis whose future totters from one election to the next…and in switching to Israel as my main concern, do I contradict myself?

Very well (as Walt Whitman had it), I contradict myself.

I already took this up in my column here of Feb. 10 on Bennie Gantz and the prospect of Israelis going to the polls in April and choosing for themselves the wrong man for the top job, admittedly as seen through the eyes of an American who found the Gaza expulsion politically, religiously and militarily sinful. (Gantz sees it as a “model” for future expulsions.)

Sometimes people from afar see things clearer than those in the heat of the action. (Perhaps special consideration to those of us who volunteered and served.)

Warn the Israelis that your country is at stake. Your sacrifices are at stake. Your past is at stake. Your future is at stake. Your lives are at stake.

Handing the keys to killers through a two-state solution, as favored by the Left, means constant terrorism within your gates. They will be your “snares” in the skies and underfoot.

A Palestinian state in the heart of Israel means a state within a state, and it did not work in Jordan, nor in Lebanon, nor in Tunis, where in each case the PLO triggered bloodbath civil wars.

They can’t get along with fellow Arabs – what chance for the Jews?

That Gantz column of mine was a scream from afar, a message to warn the Israelis that your country is at stake. Your sacrifices are at stake. Your past is at stake. Your future is at stake. Your lives are at stake. More directly, attention must be paid to this Israeli who gets it when he declares the upcoming elections “a genuine emergency call.”

That’s from Immigration and Absorption Minister Yoav Galant who adds, “If a leftist government is formed by Gantz, it will cause generations of mourning in the land of Israel.”

You’d think a truthful alarm like that would ring throughout the land, but there is always the appetite for suicidal appeasement from the Left. They are still the minority, but appear to be cobbling a formidable coalition….as is the Right, finally, and getting its act together behind Benjamin Netanyahu.

In Israel, where politics is as unruly as cage duels at Vince McMahon’s WWE, this means pasting it together reluctantly after everybody gets a turn to propose a BETTER PLAN.

Voters…If you think Netanyahu is not perfect enough, too hawkish, too dovish, wait till the other guys take over and plan for you what they planned for Gush Katif.

There’s still time to shape up before we place our destiny in the wrong hands, both in Israel and the United States.
