Israel has informed the Palestinian Authority that it will close the Erez crossing between Israel and Gaza as of Sunday, except for medical and humanitarian cases.

The decision was made following the latest violent riots along the Gaza border on Friday. Thousands of Palestinian Arabs took part in those riots, hurling several firebombs and IEDs and crossing into Israeli territory.

No injuries to IDF soldiers were reported.

The decision to close the Erez crossing comes days after the IDF announced that Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman had decided to reopen the Kerem Shalom crossing with Gaza after it had been closed for several weeks due to the ongoing balloon and kite terrorism.

Liberman had conditioned the opening of the crossing on the calm from Gaza continuing.
