Members of the Yisrael Beytenu party attacked Education Minister Naftali Bennett during an "open question hour" in the Knesset plenum.
MKs Yulia Malinovsky and Oded Forer asked him to answer for his decision to move the Lag Ba'Omer school holiday to Monday from its actual date on Sunday. The Education Minister had said that he wanted to avoid forcing security forces and police to desecrate the Sabbath in order to prepare the main celebration area for Saturday night..
"I understand that you received an order from the defense minister to attack me," Bennett said to the indignant MKs, referring to Defense Minister Avigdor (Yvette) Liberman who heads the Yisrael Beytenu party and had promised to assassinate the Hamas leader if given the ministerial post. "I do not see that you assassinated Haniyeh. Turn your belligerence to Hamas in Gaza, not to religious Zionism."
"You are very combative today in Yisrael Beytenu. Are you proud of the Defense Minister's abuse of religious Zionism?" Bennett said following Liberman's decision to shut down Rabbi Haim Druckman's military boarding school in Or Etzion. "Where did the Defense Minister run to?" Bennett asked. "Yvette Lieberman sent them like little puppies - sic 'em! - oops, excuse me, like soldiers..."
