Hamas arrested the terrorists behind the rocket launched Tuesday night at southern Israel, a Hamas source told Ynet on Wednesday.

"What happened yesterday (the rocket fire) goes against the interests of the Palestinian factions in the Gaza Strip and against our national interests," the Hamas source said. "We consider the rocket fire to be a dangerous thing."

"Right after the rocket fire, our security forces were deployed to different places across the Strip and hunted for the shooters until they were found and arrested," the source added.

Hamas informed Egyptian authorities that it is not interested in escalation with Israel, following the firing of a rocket at Gan Yavne Tuesday and the retaliation by the IDF early this morning, sources in Gaza said.

Egypt asked Israel to “show restraint” after it attacked targets on Gaza overnight, and avoid any further deterioration of the situation.

Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon said Wednesday that Israel would let the firing of rockets from Gaza go by without repercussions and emphasized that unless quiet is restored, Gaza residents will pay a heavy price.

Yaalon said that Israel views Hamas as the party responsible for what happens in the Gaza Strip and said the organization had better take action to prevent rocket fire and other provocations.

A defense source estimated that a faction of Islamic Jihad fired the rocket Tuesday, in the course of an internal power struggle inside the organization.

Energy Minister Yuval Steinitz said that unless Hamas restrains the terror groups in Gaza, the day in which Israel has to topple Hamas may be nearing.
