Bayit Yehudi head, Economics Minister Naftali Bennett, says that he intends to propose a bill that would unite the posts of Chief Ashkenazi Rabbi and Chief Sephardic Rabbi, replacing them with a single chief rabbi.

In an interview he granted Channel 2, which is to air on Saturday night, Bennett said, “It is time for us to have one chief rabbi.”

"I will pass a law that will determine that the state of Israel has only one chief rabbi,” he said.

Bennett also spoke about the cancellation of the appointment of former minister Moshe Cachlon to head the Israel Lands Authority. “Cachlon is a wonderful person and according to the coalition agreement, he has a right to be appointed to this position.”

"We would not stop such a thing,” Bennett said, clarifying that the prime minister had not spoken to him on the subject.
