Gathering together, making sure all are accounted for, and planning ahead: this week's Torah readings parallel Israeli citizenry's response to the ubiquitous sirens that send us all to our shelters.

Standing at the crossroads, the Torah reminds us that hatred of the Jew has never been cured by Jewish self-erasure. It has never been softened by Jewish timidity.

Rabbi Fischer z"l was buried next to his beloved Ellen on Erev Sukkot at the Etz Chayim Cemetery, and eloquently eulogized by Rabbi Steven Pruzansky and Rabbi Pesach Lerner alone, due to the proximity of the holiday. A friend sent added words of remembrance that include excerpts from his articles.

Why must I choose to either be either Dati Leumi or haredi? Why have the many people like me, haredi in our dress and way of life, been left bereft of a hashkafic home, when we are just trying to live Torah lives and support being part of the IDF?

The proposed hostage deal is a bad deal for Israel, but Haredi lawmakers backed it for their own political gain, denigrating Religious Zionists who opposed it as being less Torah-oriented. Do they think Haredim care about the hostages more than those who are actually going out to fight for them?

The crisis in Israel shows how sorely we need Redemption. If the government gives in to the protests, it will set a terrible precedent.
