The US Secret Service said Tuesday that it is aware of a threatening video targeting Barron Trump that was broadcast by Iranian state media and is reviewing the material.
“The US Secret Service is aware of the video and investigates anything that can be perceived as a threat toward our protectees," Secret Service spokesperson Nate Herring said in a statement to NewsNation.
“Out of concern for operational security, we do not discuss matters of protective intelligence," Herring added.
The Secret Service statement followed the broadcast of a video by Iranian state television targeting Barron, the 20-year-old son of President Donald Trump.
The video was titled “Where and How Barron Trump Should Be Killed." It claimed that Barron’s movements had been “fully monitored" and alleged that information had been obtained about his university, vehicles traveling with him and the locations of Secret Service agents assigned to protect him.
The broadcast also claimed that a $10 million bounty had been placed on Barron. That allegation had not been independently verified at the time of publication.
The latest threat follows similar material targeting members of the Trump family. In July, the Tasnim news agency, which is affiliated with Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, published a video claiming that access routes and vulnerabilities in first lady Melania Trump's security arrangements in New York had been exposed.
The New York Post also reported in late May on an alleged plot targeting Ivanka Trump.
Iranian state media have additionally made threats against the president himself. In July, a billboard displayed in Tehran's Islamic Revolution Square depicted Trump apparently lying dead in a coffin alongside the words, “We will kill Trump."
Tehran has repeatedly pledged retribution against Trump following the first-term US drone strike that eliminated Qassem Soleimani, the high-ranking general who led the Quds Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
Trump has previously warned that an attempt on his life would trigger a major US response. On January 20, he said that if such an attempt occurred, “the entire country of Iran is going to get blown up. The Islamic Republic will be wiped off the face of the earth."
