The Planning and Planning Committee on Tuesday approved the plan for the renewal of the town of Ir Ovot, which was promoted by the Construction and Housing Ministry in cooperation with the Settlement Division and the Central Arava Regional Council.

Construction and Housing Minister Maj. Gen. (res.) Yoav Galant explained: "Since I assumed the role, I immediately renewed the planning budget for Ir Ovot and promoted the establishment of this strategic settlement with the planning authorities.

"We are working diligently to increase the supply of apartments and provide housing and quality of life solutions for the Israeli public, and we will continue to develop, strengthen and settle the south in general and the Negev in particular," added Galant.

Ir Ovot is a new town in the Central Arava Regional Council, with 250 residential units planned. The community will be located west of the Hatzeva Junction, adjacent to the Tamar biblical ruins.

The Construction and Housing Ministry together with the Settlement Division, the Regional Council and other bodies have been working for four years to approve the establishment of the community.
