Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has decided to appoint as Communications Minister Likud MK Ayoob Kara. The appointment is expected to be approved on Sunday by the Israeli government.
Last Sunday, temporary Communications Minister Tzachi Hanegbi's (Likud) term ended, but Netanyahu pushed off appointing a permanent minister because of US President Donald Trump's visit to Israel.
Previously, the main candidate for the position was Tourism Minister Yariv Levin (Likud), who is considered to be very close to Netanyahu.
In February, Hanegbi was chosen to serve as Communications Minister for a period of three months, after the left-wing Zionist Union party and the Citizens Rights Association appealed to the Supreme Court not to allow Netanyahu to serve as Communications Minister, since they saw it was a "conflict of interest."
As a result of the petitions, Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit told Netanyahu to give the position to someone else.
