National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir (Otzma Yehudit) on Thursday spoke out against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's statement that the judicial reform will not include the Override Clause.

In his statements, Ben Gvir said that leaving out the Override Clause would be "caving to those who burn the Ayalon [Highway] and to those who call for civil disobedience," and stressed that this would be "a victory for violence and a loss for Israel."

"We were elected to bring about governance and change," he emphasized. "The reform is the cornerstone of this promise. Changing the composition of the Judicial Selection Committee, the Override Clause, and limiting the authority of the Attorney General are crucial."

"Caving will lead to strengthening the rule of the Attorneys General, which does not allow elected officials to govern," he stressed.

Ben Gvir's statements follow an interview Netanyahu gave to the Wall Street Journal, in which he said that he "threw out" the Override Clause. In that interview, Netanyahu also said that the composition of the Judicial Selection Committee "is not going to be the current structure, but it's not going to be the original structure."
