The British Government announced on Tuesday that Simon Walters has been appointed the new UK Ambassador to Israel.
Walters will take up his appointment during August of 2023 and will succeed Neil Wigan, who has served in the role for the past several years and will be transferring to another Diplomatic Service appointment.
He has been undergoing full time training in the Hebrew language for the past year in preparation for his position.
Walters held a senior position concerning the Middle East in the British Foreign Office. He worked at the British Consulate in Jerusalem between 2008 and 2011 and later served in a variety of positions on behalf of the British Foreign Office in Saudi Arabia, Yemen and Iraq.
The outgoing Ambassador, Neil Wigan, came to Israel partly due to the fact that his wife is Israeli, and has been in office for more than three and a half years.
Before that, he served in several positions at the British Embassy in Israel and other countries in the Middle East.
