The health of Iran's Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, is reportedly causing concern among senior regime officials due to the fact that he has not met with government ministers since the February 28 attack on the Supreme Leader's compound.
According to a report published by the Iranian opposition, rumors have spread within the regime's leadership that Khamenei is in very serious condition and that his life is in immediate danger.
The attack on the Supreme Leader's compound, in which Khamenei's father and other family members were killed, took place on February 28. Since then, according to the report, Khamenei has not held meetings with ministers in President Masoud Pezeshkian's government.
The report, published by the opposition website IranWire, cited two sources close to Pezeshkian's administration. The sources said no meetings have taken place between the Supreme Leader and government ministers since the attack and that serious rumors regarding his condition have spread among senior officials.
According to the sources, the rumors center on Khamenei's physical and medical condition and concerns that his life is in immediate danger. At this stage, however, the report has not been corroborated by additional sources.
In March, CNN reported that the new supreme leader was wounded on the first day of the war in his foot and face. He reportedly suffered a fracture in his foot, an injury around his left eye, and cuts to his face.
The New York Times reported, citing three Iranian officials, that the new leader is suffering from several injuries, the most serious of which affects his legs and limits his ability to move. Alongside Mojtaba’s father, his wife, son, and mother were also killed.
Several months ago, Britain's The Times reported that the younger Khamenei was unconscious and that preparations were underway for his burial alongside his father in a new mausoleum that, according to the report, was being built for "more than one grave."
