11 civilians were injured on Thursday night during Houthi attacks targeting the southern Saudi city of Najran, according to official statements from the military spokesperson for the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen.
The coalition reported that the casualties included seven Saudi nationals, two Egyptian citizens, one Pakistani national, and one Yemeni national.
The Houthi attack came shortly after a senior Saudi official told Al Arabiya English that multiple credible intelligence reports indicate active coordination between the Houthis, Iraqi militias, and Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to prepare attacks against Saudi Arabia.
The source told the network the reports are particularly alarming as they come while the Kingdom continues efforts to promote de-escalation and peaceful solutions, with negotiations moving in a positive direction.
The source further stated that Saudi Arabia will not hesitate to take all necessary measures to respond to any aggression.
The report comes amid renewed tensions between Saudi Arabia and the Iranian-backed, Yemen-based Houthi rebels.
On Wednesday, Houthi representatives asserted that their forces launched missile strikes targeting two Saudi crude oil tankers - one in the vicinity of the Red Sea port of Yanbu and another in the Gulf of Aden.
The naval strikes represent a continuation of a maritime interdiction campaign initiated by Houthi leadership last month across the Red Sea. The movement imposed the naval blockade following restrictions placed on air transportation and commercial shipments bound for Houthi-administered areas in Yemen.
In response to the declared blockade, the Saudi government vowed to leverage all legitimate measures under international law to protect commercial shipping lanes.
These maritime developments follow fierce ground engagements in western Yemen, where government troops confronted Houthi forces south of Hodeidah province, resulting in at least 50 Houthi fatalities and dozens of injuries.
The conflict subsequently widened after Houthi figures accused Saudi military aircraft of conducting strikes on Sanaa International Airport. Yemen's internationally recognized government claimed responsibility for the air raid, stating the operation was executed to intercept an incoming Iranian plane. In retaliation, Houthi forces launched missile attacks into southwestern Saudi Arabia targeting locations near Abha Airport.
