Iran's intelligence ministry said on Friday it has arrested the "main actors" involved in a drone attack last month on a defense ministry site in central Isfahan province, AFP reported.

"The main actors of the failed attempt to sabotage one of the industrial centers of the Ministry of Defense in Isfahan were identified and arrested," a joint statement by the intelligence ministry and the intelligence organization of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps read.

"Due to the ongoing investigation in the case of the arrested accused, additional information will be published at the appropriate time," the statement noted.

"In short, the involvement of mercenaries of the temporary Zionist regime (Israel) in that action has been proven," it added.

The drone attack last month was attributed to Israel, with intelligence officials telling The New York Times that the Isfahan attack was the work of the Mossad.

People familiar with discussions about the operation later told The Wall Street Journal that Israel believes the Isfahan attack achieved its goals.

The sources said the drone attack hit a building in four different areas with precision strikes.

Satellite photos showed what appeared to be minor damage to the site’s roof, but the people called the mission successful, without elaborating.

Israel has not commented directly on the Isfahan attack. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told CNN several days after the attack that Israel has acted against Iranian threats but would not go into details and refused to confirm or deny whether Israel was behind the Isfahan attack.

“I never talk about specific operations… and every time some explosion takes place in the Middle East, Israel is blamed or given responsibility – sometimes we are sometimes we’re not,” he said.
