Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi said on Tuesday Iran would show "no mercy" towards "hostile" opponents of the Islamic Republic, AFP reported.

His comments come as Iran deals with the ongoing protests that have gripped the country since the September 16 death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, after she was arrested by the morality police.

Addressing a crowd in Tehran, Raisi accused "hypocrites, monarchists and all anti-revolutionary currents".

"The embrace of the nation is open to all those who were lured," said the president at a funeral procession for unidentified soldiers who perished during Iran’s eight-year war in the 1980s with neighboring Iraq.

"The embrace of the nation is open to everyone, but we will show no mercy to those who are hostile," he added.

Hundreds of protesters have been killed in the nationwide unrest, including dozens of minors. Several people have so far been handed death sentences over the demonstrations, and two have been executed.

Foreign-based rights groups have put the toll among protesters at more than 450, reported AFP.

Iran has blamed its international foes, such as the US and Israel, for the ongoing protests.

Iranian officials, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, have accused hostile foreign powers, including the United States and some European countries, of stoking the unrest.

Raisi said on Tuesday that the foreign powers aim "to derail the Islamic society from its high goals" by "spreading rumors and fracturing society."

But foreign countries are "wrong" to think that they would achieve their goals, Raisi argued, calling their moves miscalculated.
