One person was killed and 19 more injured after a car driven by a suspected white supremacist rammed into a procession of counter-demonstrators at a white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia on Saturday.

The vehicle, driven by 20-year-old James Alex Fields Jr., crashed through a crowd of pedestrians and struck another car at the crowd protesting a white supremacist event called “Unite the Right”.

White supremacists and neo-Confederates held the event to protest plans to remove a statue of Confederate General Robert E. Lee from a Charlottesville park.

The suspect, a resident of Maumee, Ohio, was arrested near the scene of the incident.
