Yamam officers, members of Israel's National Counterterrorism Unit, on Monday morning conducted a drill simulating an extreme terrorist attack scenario in the Eilat area.
The officers were called up without warning and flown by helicopter to the site of the exercise as part of a drill testing the operational response to an extreme, multi-front scenario.
The drill was held as part of a large-scale exercise taking place in the Eilat area under the Israel Police Southern District. The exercise is being led by Southern District Commander Maj. Gen. Haim Bublil in cooperation with security and emergency services.
Upon landing, Yamam officers practiced taking control of the combat zone and rescuing hostages. The forces also drilled negotiations, neutralizing terrorists, and restoring the area to normal.
The exercise was intended to test and improve the forces' readiness to deal with unusual and complex terrorist incidents. As part of the drill, forces practiced providing a rapid, precise, and coordinated response to extreme scenarios.
