Second Sergeant David Hoyer Amrani, 20, was declared dead Saturday night after opening fire at police officers in the Kiryat Hasharon neighborhood of Netanya on Saturday.
Amrani, who used a rifle, did not cause injury to the forces or to anyone else. Following a short chase, he was shot and neutralized.
Amrani enlisted in the Border Police in August 2024 for his mandatory service. After completing his training, he was stationed in Hebron working with the Border Police in Judea and Samaria. Eight months ago, he moved to the 39th Company of Judea and Samaria's Border Police.
He was pronounced dead at the hospital Saturday night, shortly after being neutralized by police officers and security personnel.
According to initial assessments, Amrani was suffering from combat trauma. The circumstances of the incident and the events that led to the shooting are still under investigation.
Footage recorded before the shooting showed Amrani walking along the street in civilian clothing while carrying a long firearm. Additional footage showed police forces arriving at the scene and putting on protective vests.
At some point, Amrani opened fire at police forces operating in the area. The officers and security personnel returned fire and neutralized him. He was evacuated to the hospital in critical condition, and was later pronounced dead.
Large forces from the Central District Police operated at the scene and in the surrounding area following the shooting. The Central District Police Commander arrived at the scene and conducted a situational assessment.
Netanya Police Station Commander Kobi Abutbul said at the scene that the incident had ended and that police were in the initial stages of investigating its circumstances.
The investigation is continuing in an effort to determine the sequence of events and the circumstances that led to the shooting.
