Increased security activity at Israel's exit points has led to the thwarting of several attempts by haredi draft evaders to leave the country illegally.
According to an official statement from the Israel Airports Authority, on Wednesday security personnel at Ben Gurion Airport identified and stopped six haredi men obligated to perform military service who attempted to leave Israel illegally.
The six were stopped in two different areas of the airport: Two were detained in Terminal 1, while the other four were caught in Terminal 3.
All of the suspects were immediately transferred to representatives of the Population and Immigration Authority, where a comprehensive check found that they were subject to active military orders preventing them from leaving Israel.
Meanwhile, there has been an increase in the number of Breslov hasidim being stopped as they attempt to travel to Uman, Ukraine, ahead of Rosh Hashanah (the Jewish New Year).
Dozens of worshippers were arrested at Ben Gurion Airport after authorities discovered that orders had been issued preventing them from leaving the country due to their failure to report to IDF recruitment offices.
The phenomenon was not limited to the airport: An additional group of hasidim was stopped at the Taba border crossing, after attempting to cross into Egypt with the intention of flying from there to destinations in Europe and continuing on to Uman for the Rosh Hashanah pilgrimage.
