US President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt will conclude her tenure in the position at the end of August.
Taking to Truth Social to share the news, Trump praised Leavitt as “one of my most trusted aides", explaining that she “will be departing her role at the end of the month so she can spend more time with her beautiful young children and family, a decision I totally understand and respect!"
Trump further outlined her upcoming political transition, stating, “Karoline will now be one of my top outside advisors, and an influential voice within the Republican Party, as we work to defy History, and conclusively win the Midterm Elections."
Reflecting on her tenure and service, the President added, “Karoline has been a real leader in the White House, and has done a phenomenal job fighting for Justice, Liberty, and Freedom, since 2018, including our Historic Re-Election Campaign of 2024. Karoline has been one of the best White House Press Secretaries in the History of the Office. Thank you, Karoline, for a job well done!"
Confirming her departure shortly afterward, Leavitt described her decision as “bittersweet"and emphasized her commitment to raising her two young children.
“The truth is since returning to the White House after the birth of my daughter, I have felt in my heart that I cannot be the best mom my two young children deserve while devoting the constant time, energy, and attention required of the White House Press Secretary," she stated.
"I am thankful to the President for entrusting me with the distinct privilege of speaking on his behalf at the White House podium."
Leavitt reiterated that Trump requested she stay on as a senior external advisor, noting, “My fight is entering a new phase, but it is far from over."
At 28 years old, Leavitt made history as the youngest individual ever appointed to the position of White House Press Secretary, as well as the first woman to navigate a pregnancy while serving in the demanding post. She had recently re-anchored briefings following a brief period of maternity leave.
Having previously filled junior roles in the administration during Trump's first presidential term, Leavitt rose to become one of his most prominent and steadfast defenders during his second administration. Known for her aggressive media strategy, she built a reputation as a fierce advocate for the President and his platform, frequently engaging in sharp exchanges with tough journalists while favoring friendlier media outlets.
An official replacement for the Press Secretary position has not yet been announced.
