Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir read the Hagaddah with the 146th brigade during the Passover Seder.
Among the verses he reads are the ones speaking of the Smiting of the Firstborn: "And I will pass through Egypt on this night, and smite every firstborn of Egypt from human to animal, and do judgement to the gods of Egypt, I am God."
He also read about the plague of Pestilence: "Behold the hand of God will appear among your livestock," and the symbolic mention of the sword of God: "And his sword was drawn in his hand, stretched out over Jerusalem."
i24 correspondent Amichai Stein commented on the film: "The enemies are hiding underground, while the Israeli Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir goes to the front lines and conducts a ‘Passover Seder’ with the soldier - alongside a reserve division in the north."
"The people of Israel are gathering for the holiday meal, aware that we are at war, and that there are those who protect us, the soldiers of the IDF. As we read the Haggadah, we remember our history: from slavery to freedom. We do not return to those days of bondage. We remain, and will continue to strive to be, a people of freedom."
