Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu slammed former senior officials, accusing them of attempting to "distort facts" and influence the investigation into the failures of the October 7th massacre.
In a post on social media, Netanyahu wrote: "In recent days, we have witnessed an organized pressure campaign by former senior officials who are trying to distort the facts and dictate to the government how to act. These officials allowed anarchy to infiltrate state systems and harmed the cohesion of the IDF and security forces by promoting refusal. Today, they are trying to influence the nature of the investigation that will examine the failures they led to in the October 7th disaster."
"These individuals must not be involved in decisions and considerations about how the disaster will be investigated. It is a clear conflict of interest," Netanyahu wrote, reiterating his statements about a national commission of inquiry: "We will ensure that the national investigation committee is broad, clean, professional, represents the entire public, both the opposition and coalition equally, and is committed to one thing: the truth for the sake of Israel’s security."
Opposition leader Yair Lapid responded: "There is no clearer or more serious conflict of interest than that of the Prime Minister of October 7th and his ministers. A national commission of inquiry will be established, if not now, then in the first week of our government."
