Dr. Tuvia Book, the medic who treated singer and actor Idan Amedi after he was severely injured in Gaza, recounted the dramatic moments of the rescue and their emotional reunion, in an interview with Channel 14.
Book said he did not initially recognize Amedi when he arrived at the scene.
“We arrived at a pretty serious incident - a mass casualty event. There was a massive explosion, there were fatalities, and we saw a soldier lying there in the field. We got there and saw horrific things,” he said.
Describing Amedi’s condition, Book recalled: “When we reached him, he was completely charred, injured, not breathing, unconscious, without a dog tag—without anything. We thought he was 27 because he was in peak physical condition.”
Asked whether he ever imagined that the wounded soldier would be performing on stage a year later, Book responded: “Absolutely not. When we found him, not only was he not breathing and unconscious, but there were so many fractures in his hands.”
Reflecting on the reunion at Amedi’s performance this past Saturday night, Book added: “I didn’t expect it at all. I love his songs and his role in Fauda - it was really a surprise.”
