President Isaac Herzog on Monday evening spoke by phone with Majority Leader of the United States Senate, Chuck Schumer.
President Herzog thanked Senator Schumer for his steadfast commitment to the people of Israel, and for his continued efforts to lead wide-ranging support for Israel across the political spectrum in the US.
The President updated Senator Schumer on Israel's ongoing efforts to fight against the threat of Hamas and to ensure the release of the hostages.
He also reiterated Israel's ongoing efforts to prevent harm to the civilian population in Gaza, and ensure the substantial increase in the supply of humanitarian aid to the civilian population of Gaza even as Hamas continued to hide behind the civilian population and infrastructure.
Senator Schumer thanked the President, and stressed the importance of Israel's efforts to make its case in the media and on the world stage.
About a week after Hamas’ murderous October 7 attack on Israel, Schumer led a bipartisan US Senate delegation to Israel.
He later said the Senate would seek to pass a resolution supporting Israel and approve additional funds for Israel.
