Opposition leader and Yesh Atid Party chairman Yair Lapid said in an interview with Channel 12 News on Thursday that he knows the identities of the members of the coalition who voted in favor of the representative of the opposition in the election of the members of the Judicial Selection Committee.
Lapid stated in the interview that as long as there is no Judicial Selection Committee, there will be no talks about the judicial reform taking place in the President's Residence.
"We have always managed to coordinate our positions," Lapid said of the cooperation with National Unity Party chairman Benny Gantz, adding, "I want to make sure that there will be a Judicial Selection Committee. You can't trust Netanyahu's word, no matter who he says it to and what he says. We only buy actions, not promises."
"It was an amazing event yesterday," said the leader of the opposition. "We talked to people within the coalition, we didn't promise them anything. I know who are the people who voted with us from the coalition, they did it because they understood."
The most important thing that happened on Wednesday, continued Lapid, "is that a new Israeli alliance began to be built. People who believe in the unity of the people, a national-liberal alliance that is not ready to be held hostage by extremists and Messianics."
On the reports that National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir does not plan to extend the term of Israel Police Commissioner Yaakov Shabtai, the chairman of Yesh Atid said, "Shabtai is sitting in Germany next to his [ailing] brother, who we hope will remain alive. This is the moment you choose to call journalists? How low is this. What kind of person are you? Ben Gvir is not a human being."
