Former Justice Minister Gideon Sa'ar of the National Unity Party on Friday attacked the government over its planned judicial reform, telling Channel 12 News that if the plan moves forward – Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will tear apart the Likud.
"We are expecting a pause [in the legislative process of the judicial reform], in accordance with the president's proposal, which will allow for real negotiations to be held in good faith," Sa'ar said. "Unfortunately, our outstretched hand was not met with a response, more than once in the last few weeks."
He clarified that the legislative moves promoted by the coalition as part of the judicial reform have not stopped and the coalition is showing no signs of slowing down.
"On the contrary, we see an acceleration of the moves in the Knesset, and in the end it's very simple: Do you want to reach an agreement or make us partners in a crime?" said Sa’ar.
"We are examining the Likud's moves on the ground. What is important is what is happening on the ground," continued Sa'ar. "The fact that the Knesset is convening this coming Sunday simply in order to pass the change to the regulations in the Judicial Selection Committee, makes it is clear to us that not only are they not interested in negotiations - but they are speeding up the parliamentary moves of the regime coup."
"Therefore, there is only one answer: Intensify the protest," Sa’ar stressed. “The infrastructure of support for the government and the Likud is being eroded on a daily basis, and if they continue on this path, Netanyahu will tear apart the Likud."
Sa'ar also added that "I listen to members of the Likud and also talk to Knesset members, and just as the Disengagement was a process that broke up the Likud - this process, if not stopped, will break up the Likud as well."
