Four people, including a one and a half-year-old girl and a three-year-old girl, were killed in a serious traffic accident in southern Israel on Monday afternoon.

The accident occurred at the Urim Junction in the Eshkol Regional Council, near the entrance to Kibbutz Urim, when two vehicles collided.

The children were declared dead at the scene. A 30-year-old woman was treated by Magen David Adom (MDA) medics and paramedics at the scene and evacuated by helicopter to Soroka Medical Center in Be'er Sheva in serious condition.

Senior MDA medics Aden Milman and Shimon Meman said: "This was a very serious accident, we saw vehicles overturned on the side of the road and one of the vehicles had five injured people trapped inside, 2 toddlers aged three and a year and a half and a man and a woman in their 40s had no signs of life and after extracting them, we were forced to determine their deaths."

"A woman in her 30s who was trapped in the back of the vehicle was fully conscious, seriously injured, treated on the spot and taken to the hospital by MDA helicopter. Another injured person was treated on the spot and taken to the hospital in light condition."

The highway has been closed to traffic, and an investigation into the crash has been opened.
