On Sunday morning, during a session of the Knesset Constitution Committee, MK Gilad Kariv (Labor) eulogized former MK Yael Dayan, 84, who served in the legislature in the 1990s and early 2000s.
"The media is reporting that our friend and teacher Yael Dayan has passed", MK Kariv remarked, continuing to eulogize her calling a "true warrior for women's rights and protecting minority groups in Israel, a brave legislator, and a teacher for generations."
But shortly after the footage from the committee session was released, Dayan's family clarified: "Yael is alive and well, and we are happy for every day that she is with us."
In a conversation with Radio 103FM's Ben Caspit and Yinon Magal, Dayan herself said, "I'm fine," although her difficulty talking could be heard in her voice.
The former MK then gave the phone to her foreign caretaker, who said, "She's ok, she's still alive. Not good, but she's still alive," adding that she's suffering but still fighting.
MK Kariv later apologized and stated: "Yael, my love, you should be blessed with good health and longevity."
