MK Mickey Levy (Yesh Atid) on Tuesday interrupted the press conference held by Minister Itamar Ben Gvir together and shouted at him, "Where did Ben Gvir disappear to?"
The Minister replied to him that his act is disrespectful and pointed out that he was interrupting the remarks of the Police Commissioner. "You destroyed the police. You ruined everything for two years. Show respect for the Commissioner," said Ben Gvir.
Even before the incident, security guards from the Ministry of National Security asked Levy to leave the premises because he was not invited to the press conference. Levy refused and said that he would remain there until police are summoned to remove him.
Levy said after the incident, "If the Minister refuses to send the Commissioner to the Knesset, the Knesset will go to the Minister. The disrespect shown by Minister Ben Gvir for the sovereign who is supposed to supervise the actions of the government is unacceptable. Even if Knesset Speaker Ohana is indifferent to this, we will not allow the Knesset to be run over."
The background to the incident appears to be Ben Gvir’s refusal to permit the Police Commissioner to participate in a discussion by the Knesset State Audit Committee, which Levy heads, on the report which followed Operation Guardian of the Walls.
Deputy Minister MK Michal Woldiger said, "Mickey Levy's cheap provocation in the middle of the Minister's and Commissioner's press conference is indicative of him and those who sent him. Have you no limits? How far will you degrade the Israeli discourse? It's unbelievable that someone who was the Speaker of the Knesset behaves like this."
