A tunnel dug near the security barrier in the village of Al-Jib was discovered and sealed by Israeli security forces.
The tunnel, located near the communities of Givon and Givat Ze'ev, was discovered on August 28, when excavation work was already at an advanced stage.
Following the discovery, Jerusalem Border Police officers launched a focused operational and intelligence effort in the area. During the operation, a suspect was arrested with digging tools in his possession.
An examination of the tunnel route and surrounding area also included an archaeological investigation, which revealed how the excavation had been concealed. According to police, the entrance to the tunnel had been hidden inside an ancient water cistern, concealing the digging activity at the site.
On Wednesday night, officers from the northern battalion of the Jerusalem Border Police completed the sealing of the tunnel in cooperation with IDF troops. With its sealing, the forces concluded operations at the site, following the discovery and examination of the tunnel route.
Police said security forces would continue working to locate and thwart infrastructure near the security barrier. They also stressed that the goal of such operations is to protect residents of the area.
