Approximately NIS 1.4 million ($400,000) in cash, suspected of being terror funds, was seized over the weekend after being concealed inside a double wall in a vehicle attempting to enter Jerusalem from Judea and Samaria.
The vehicle's 29-year-old Jerusalem resident driver was arrested and transferred for a joint investigation by the Jerusalem District Police Central Unit and the Shin Bet.
The seizure took place during an operation by Border Police officers serving in the Jerusalem Envelope and personnel at the crossings at the Tunnels Checkpoint. The forces stopped the vehicle for inspection as it approached the checkpoint on its way toward Jerusalem.
In footage of the incident, one of the officers can be seen searching the vehicle, first checking the trunk and then moving to the passenger compartment. As he opens a rear door and continues his inspection, he is suddenly heard exclaiming in surprise, "What is this? Oh my God!"
The officer is then heard telling a colleague that the money was found inside a double wall in the vehicle. Immediately after discovering the cash, he orders the driver to turn off the engine and exit the vehicle.
A search by the forces uncovered two bags containing cash concealed inside the double wall. The total amount seized was approximately NIS 1.4 million, and police suspect the money was intended to finance terrorism.
Following the seizure, the driver, a 29-year-old Jerusalem resident, was arrested and transferred for further joint questioning by the Jerusalem District Police Central Unit and the Shin Bet. His detention was extended by the Magistrate's Court.
