The IDF is expanding the integration of members of the haredi sector into key positions within its Intelligence Directorate.
For the first time, as part of a dedicated track known as "Reshit Chochma" ("First Wisdom"), haredi soldiers recruited through the Maalot Tzur association have begun serving as intelligence researchers in the 146th Division.
The soldiers will serve in intelligence research positions, including processing and analyzing information, developing an intelligence picture, and producing assessments that assist in evaluating the situation and supporting operational decision-making. The positions require strong learning abilities, a high level of responsibility, and discretion.
As part of the program, the recruits will undergo tailored basic training, followed by professional intelligence training based on their assigned positions. Alongside their military service, they will study at a college and acquire professional skills that can help them enter the civilian workforce after completing their service.
Ahead of their induction, a dedicated facility was established for the soldiers, adapted to their way of life and needs. Last week, a mezuzah affixing ceremony was held at the site, attended by 146th Division Commander Brigadier General Beni Aharon and other officials involved in advancing the project.
Brig. Gen. Aharon said: "We are committed to unity across all parts of the people, even more so following the events of Oct. 7. The inclusion of the haredi soldiers here is living proof that it is possible and necessary to act differently."
According to Aharon, "The arrival of haredim from all streams of yeshivas to the Intelligence Directorate and to the 146th Division entails enormous value. Your ability to bring a new approach alongside a culture of deep discussion and attention to detail is critical.
"The combination of the depth of haredi study and the core of intelligence work in the IDF is a powerful tool for strengthening the State of Israel's security."
