An IDF officer was moderately injured by an accidental discharge at the Combat Engineering School base in the Arava area.
Following the incident, the officer was evacuated to a hospital for medical treatment.
The officer's family was notified of his injury. The IDF stated that the Military Investigative Police opened an investigation into the incident, and that upon its conclusion, the findings will be transferred to the Military Prosecution for review.
Earlier this month, an IDF soldier undergoing training at the Hashmonaim Brigade's training base in the Jordan Valley was seriously injured in an accidental discharge at the base.
An initial IDF investigation found that while the soldiers were on personal time, three soldiers entered their room, locked the door, and allegedly began playing with their weapons. During the incident, the soldiers reportedly competed to see who could cock his weapon the fastest.
At one point, one of the soldiers inserted a magazine into his weapon, cocked it, switched it to firing mode, and pulled the trigger. The bullet struck one of his fellow soldiers, seriously injuring him in the neck.
The IDF stated: "An IDF soldier was seriously injured earlier this evening as a result of gunfire at a military base. The soldier was evacuated to a hospital for medical treatment, and his family has been notified."
The IDF added: "Following the incident, an investigation was opened by the Military Investigative Police. Upon its conclusion, the findings will be transferred to the Military Prosecution for review."
