Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited the medical school and regional medical center at Ariel University today (Tuesday). During the visit, he met Amit, a soldier who was wounded by sniper fire during a battle in Gaza a year and a half ago.
Netanyahu commented on the encounter, writing, “There was one moment today at the faculty at Ariel University that moved me deeply." During their conversation, Amit turned to him and said, “I wanted to say thank you very much."
The Prime Minister replied, “Maybe I should be thanking you? You look great." Netanyahu then asked Amit about the treatment he was receiving.
“Are you undergoing physical therapy here?" Netanyahu asked. Amit replied, “No, I receive psychological treatment here." The Prime Minister thanked Ayala, the psychologist who was present.
Ayala responded to Netanyahu, “We appreciate all the incredible leadership and guidance with which you are leading us." Referring to Amit, she added, “Amit is a great inspiration."
The visit marked a full-circle moment: In 2017, the Prime Minister participated in the cornerstone-laying ceremony for the medical school. Nine years later, he returned to the site, which is now home to both the medical school and the medical center.
Ariel University President Prof. Ehud Grossman welcomed the Prime Minister and said: “The stone you laid has become a vibrant, living center of teaching, research, medical treatment, and public service. An outstanding medical school and a regional medical center are growing here together - a unique combination of academia, professional training, and the provision of medical services to residents of the region."
