A morning of terror unfolded in Thailand when a student opened fire on teachers and classmates at Debsirin Nonthaburi School, near Bangkok.
The shooting left at least seven people dead, including three students, three teachers, and the gunman himself, and at least 15 others wounded, several of them seriously.
The shooting began during the morning while students were in their classrooms. Gunfire echoed through the school, sending hundreds of students and staff scrambling for shelter. Some hid under desks, while others escaped through classroom windows as teachers tried to shield students until police arrived.
Large numbers of police officers surrounded the school, evacuated students one by one, and searched the campus to ensure there was no further threat. Medical teams treated the wounded at the scene before evacuating them to nearby hospitals.
According to the initial investigation, the suspected shooter was a 14-year-old student at the school. Authorities said he used a handgun taken from a family member. Investigators are still trying to determine what motivated the attack.
Thailand's Prime Minister expressed deep shock over the shooting, offered condolences to the victims' families, and instructed all relevant authorities to provide immediate assistance to those injured and their relatives. Thailand's Education Ministry also said it would provide support to the school's students and staff in the aftermath of the tragedy.
