Religious Zionist rabbis representing a range of voices within the community have united in a joint call urging young men to enlist in the Temple Mount Police unit.
In a special video released by the Temple Mount Yeshiva, the rabbis described the role as a mission of special national and spiritual significance and called for increasing the presence of Torah-observant Jews at Judaism's holiest site.
Among those appearing in the video are Rabbi Shmuel Eliyahu, Rabbi Dov Lior, Rabbi Shlomo Aviner, Rabbi Elyakim Levanon, Rabbi Dudi Dudkevitch, Rabbi Yaakov Medan, and Rabbi Zalman Melamed.
Rabbi Shmuel Eliyahu said, "If I weren't a rabbi, I might enlist myself. It is such a holy place, so important - it is truly the conquest of the heart of the Land."
Rabbi Shlomo Aviner also urged young people to enlist, saying, "God-fearing Jew, it is precious for you to enlist as a police officer on the Temple Mount. Serving there as a police officer is a great mitzvah (Torah commandment - ed.)."
Rabbi Zalman Melamed joined the call, writing: "Torah-observant Jews should be encouraged to serve in the Temple Mount Police. I join the call for those suited to this sacred task to enlist in the Temple Mount Police."
The head of the Temple Mount Yeshiva emphasized the importance of the initiative, noting that the Israel Police is currently recruiting officers for the unit.
"This is such a holy and important mission. It is an extraordinary privilege - a dream of generations. Fortunate is the one who comes to serve on the Temple Mount," he said.
