Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday sent a special holiday letter to Russia’s Chief Rabbi, Berel Lazar, ahead of Passover.

The message, circulated by major Russian media outlets, is set to be read this evening at the opening of the central public Seder held at the Maryina Roshcha Synagogue in Moscow, where hundreds are expected to attend.

In his letter, Putin highlighted the historical and moral significance of the holiday, describing it as a commemoration of the Jewish people’s enduring quest for freedom. He wrote that Passover “symbolizes the triumph of unity, goodness, and justice," emphasizing its lasting relevance.

The Russian president also praised the vitality of Jewish life in the country, noting the community’s commitment to preserving family traditions, educating younger generations, and engaging in charitable work.

The letter also noted the role of Russia’s Jewish community in society, stating that their deep spiritual heritage serves as a model for mutual understanding and constructive cooperation among different religions and peoples.
