
One person is in custody in connection with shooting at Florida State University, officials confirmed.
Two people died and six were injured in the shooting.
In a statement on X, university officials said, "An active shooter has been reported in the area of Student Union. Police are on scene or on the way. Continue to seek shelter and await further instructions. Lock and stay away from all doors and windows and be prepared to take additional protective measures."
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis tweeted, "Our prayers are with our FSU family and state law enforcement is actively responding."
US President Donald Trump was briefed on the shooting as he hosted Italy's Prime Minister at the Oval Office.
He commented, "It's a horrible thing. It’s horrible that things like this take place."
